You can close your eyes for the things that you do not want to see but you cannot close your heart to the things that you really want to see or to have in life.
Your heart will remain open to the things that you feel. You will always feel things in the same manner or slightly different.
The same way you can learn about your pain and the same way you can learn how to heal your pain. When people meditate, they close their eyes and try to imagine something pleasant which ultimately heal the pain and gives them power and energy to go forward in life.
